  • One of the world's most attractive fighters has 'solved' his military service and is returning to the UFC

Even earlier than expected, Doo Ho Choi will make its return to the Octagon.

It seems, the UFC has been without the performance of Korean lightweight fighter, Doo Ho Choi, only during the past 2020. Namely, although it was expected that he could be absent for a longer period due to his military service, it seems that the popular fighter managed to arrange his return to the Octagon in the coming months.

It is not known at this time whether this means that he will continue to serve in the army, but with permission to train and perform outside his homeland, or has been completely relieved of duty, but information from South Korea says he has solved the problems and should fight again this year.

The 29-year-old Choi (14-4, 3-3 UFC) arrived at the promotion with a reputation as a big knockout artist, which he confirmed to be in the first three fights, when he celebrated in all three, not to mention that he spent a total  less than five minutes in Octagon. This was followed by the war against Cuba Swanson, declared the best fight of 2016, and it ranks among the most exciting fights in UFC history. Unfortunately for him, he suffered the next defeats from Jeremy Stephens and Charles Jourdain, but each time he delighted with his fighting style and fans were disappointed when the "call of the homeland" followed. They were afraid that this could mean an absence of up to three years, which Chan Chan Jung did the same, but apparently the "Korean Superboy" managed to solve something to his own satisfaction, but also to the satisfaction of all who enjoy his fights.

The information says that he should do his next fight in July, which would be 19 months from the last performance. However, this is not as scary as originally expected.

  • Khabib announces successor: 'No one can beat him, he will rule the category by the end of the year'

For the first time since September 2019, Islam Makhachev will perform at the UFC’s Octagon

It’s no secret that 29-year-old Islam Makhachev (18-1, 7-1 UFC) is one of the most talented MMA fighters in the world. This guy is already destined to succeed his colleague Khabib Nurmagomedov and many see him at the top. He could head for it this weekend at the UFC 259 event, where a fight against Drew Dober awaits him. It will also be his first appearance since September 2019, when he defeated Davi Ramos in Abu Dhabi.

He will be accompanied by his training partner and mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov. The UFC (retired) lightweight champion does not hide the ambitions of their team, which are such that they see Islam at the top, where Khabib has been in recent years. And he openly announced it once again.

"Everyone is talking about Dustin, Conor, Chandler, Gaethje and Oliveira. But by the end of the year that will change. I don't believe there is anyone right now who can defeat Islam Makhachev. He will take over this division and rule it," Khabib told ESPN -u , thus expressing great confidence in his friend and longtime teammate, adding: "I sincerely believe that his era is coming."

In addition, the late Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov also held the same view, arguing that Islam would take over the throne as soon as Khabib retired. As this one did, no matter how much the UFC leadership disagreed with it, the Eagles MMA team believes the time has come for a successor. Nothing is different in the other team to which these fighters belong, the American Kickboxing Academy.

"People need to understand that this guy is a real machine. If we leave out the possibility that someone can always hit him with a real shot, I don't see anyone who can beat him in any segment of our sport. With small gloves anything is possible, but I tell you there is no fighter who can beat Islam Makhachev by points. And I'm not kidding, "said AKA head coach Javier Mendez.

So far the biggest problem for Makhachev has been the rare performances, making him actually among the worst in the entire UFC. He did his first fight in May 2015, having done a total of eight UFC fights so far. On average, this would mean that the fight is registered only every eight and a half months, which is far below what the rising fighters should perform, ie preferably three times a year.

If there is a victory against Dober, Makhachev has a good opportunity to climb to the top. But he will also be expected to do the next fight this spring or early summer. So far the smallest time difference between his two UFC fights has been five months, so he will definitely need to overcome that as well.

  • Boxing great George Foreman with a surprising prognosis advised McGregor to leave MMA!

One of the greatest heavyweights in history drew the attention of two martial arts worlds with one statement.

Conor McGregor did not open 2021 in the best way and after a 12 month break he suffered a heavy defeat from Dustin Poirier

Although the Irishman still believes he has a lot more to offer in the UFC, some, like legendary boxing champion George Foreman, advise him to leave MMA and dedicate himself entirely to his boxing career.

“Now I’d rather watch him in boxing matches,” ‘Big George’ began in an interview with the Daily Star.

Recall, before the rematch of McGregor and Poirier, there was a lot of talk about Conor's new boxing trip, or a potential fight against Manny Pacquiao, but this idea was temporarily suspended after the new defeat of the former UFC champion.

Foreman, on the other hand, believes that this plan should be continued and, somewhat surprisingly, gives the Irishman a very good chance.

"I think he can beat him. With good rules, through 10 rounds - yes, McGregor can beat him. He's already adjusted to boxing, and in MMA he won't do so well anymore. Pacquiao is very good, but Conor can beat him in a boxing match ", concludes one of the greatest boxers in history.

McGregor, let us remind you, did only one professional boxing match. It happened in August 2017 when he was stopped by the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a spectacular clash in the 10th round of the fight.

  • Canelo arrived in Miami and did the first confrontation before the clash that awaits us this weekend

The Mexican will defend his WBA and WBC titles on Saturday night

The last weekend in February will be marked by a new performance by boxing superstar Saul 'Canel' Alvarez (54-1-2).

The Mexican striker will defend his WBA and WBC super middleweight titles on Saturday night, and his opponent at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami will be his Turkish opponent  Avni Yildirim (21-2).

In this fight Canelo enters as a huge favorite. According to many lists currently the best ‘pound-for-pound’ boxer in the world for a rival will have a mandatory WBC challenger. Yıldırım is 29 years old, and an interesting fact is that he has not made a single appearance in the past two years.

Moreover, Avni was defeated in his last fight by Anthony Dirrell who defeated him in February 2019 in the fight for the then vacant WBC super-middleweight title.

  • The new UFC rankings have been published, all but two are looking at the back of Derrick Lewis

The new UFC rankings have been published, all but two are looking at the back of Derrick Lewis.

Derrick Lewis ’shift is the most significant change on the UFC’s new challenger rankings.

The win over Curtis Blaydes is expected to make Derrick Lewis a hit UFC heavyweight fighter. After a 16th win in 21 appearances within the UFC’s Octagon, the “Black Beast” came close to a new attack on the championship title. This is best supported by his placement in the new UFC heavyweight rankings. Namely, he became the second challenger.

That would mean that only Stipe Miočić and Francis Ngannou are ahead of him, who will fight for the title on March 27. Lewis was aware of this already after the big win, but he also added that he does not hope to fight for the title at the moment, as he believes that Jon Jones will definitely be next. Moreover, he has no intention of waiting for his chance but has already stated that he hopes to fight Alistair Overeem. Despite Overeem coming behind the defeat, it is by order one of the two most realistic fights for him. The second would be against the winner of the fight between Cyril Gane and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

This is the most important change in this week's rankings, but it is worth mentioning the one in the women's bantamweight category. With the victory against Ketlen Vieira, Yana Kunitskaya climbed two positions and is now the fifth fighter in the challenger rankings. For Thiago Santos ’fiancée, some new opportunities and potentially interesting fights are also opening up.

Among other changes, it should be noted that Chris Daukaus became a new member of the Top 10 heavyweight rankings, and a victory over Alexei Oleinik brought him there . It must be admitted that the acquisition of Tom Aspinall on the ladder was expected, but the Englishman's celebration of victory against Andrej Arlovski did not bring him that honor. Sergey Pavlovich and Blagoi Ivanov swapped positions on the same ladder, so the Russian is now the 13th fighter in the ladder, despite not having fought since October 2019.

All the rankings are published on UFC official site, you can view them HERE .
